The development of this new work, The Ophelia Project, is to mark the formation of The Ophelia Collective - a collective of female movement artists. The collective is being set up in reaction to the current discussions in the contemporary dance world about a lack of female choreographers.

In this work I will use a diverse group of female performers who have been attending my workshops in Clapham. A variety of performers have been invited to take part in the workshops but we are now starting to establish a central cast This piece has come from a section of Songs of Sorrow, my previous piece, which used images of Ophelia to form a duet. This time I will use more performers and I want to explore a more participatory element to my work. The performance itself will be a short sequence of images based on Millais' Ophelia and other pictures of Ophelia and Pre-Raphaelite women as well as the natural world which often surrounds women in such pictures.
With many thanks to participators so far: - Nicola Higgins, Alison Lamothe, Mukta Das, Regina Fichtner, Laura D'Asta, Joanna Skzop, Wieteke van Schalkwijk, Eshani Shriya Zakaria, Ioanna Symeonidou, Mabel Encinas, Satoko Fujishiro, Stephanie Triantafyllou, Natalie Karamichali, Umi Pratsis, Sophie Linn and Beverley Palmer.
