A page of countercult articles intended to
be helpful for those who have come under the influence of
Herbert W. Armstrong (Armstrongism) at some stage in the
past.
PLEASE NOTE:
We respect all members and adherents of other
beliefs/religions, but we sincerely believe that true
Christianity has some utterly unique claims and verifications
which we encourage all to become familiar with.
As many of you will be aware, my wife and I were
once members of the 'Worldwide Church of God' (almost
always now abbreviated to 'WCG') a name which has become
synonymous with the term 'Armstrongism'.
We were part of this group from 1981-1994. The reason for the
term, 'Armstrongism' is that the old-style WCG was the brainchild
of one Herbert W. Armstrong, an American marketing and
advertising man who (lamentably) came to consider himself as the
supreme Bible expert upon this earth, and the only one that God
was actively guiding. His errors are now very well documented, of
course, and I have no wish to rake over old things yet
again.
In fairness, the current WCG (now a very small group) now reject
Armstrongism and have tried - and continue to try - very hard to
fit into the mould of an evangelical Christian organisation.
However, numerous small groups still exist who uphold
Armstrongism and who now see the current WCG as being totally
apostate. These groups and their ongoing influence as well as the
long-term effect of Armstrongism upon current and former WCG
members are the reason I have written a few things about this
eclectic set of doctrines.
My wife and I hold no bitterness either to the WCG, or to the
break-off groups whom we genuinely want to help; moreover we
separate ourselves from some of the more abusive, hateful and
vitriolic attacks on Herbert W. Armstrong which can be found on
the 'net'. By the way, this might be an opportune moment to sound
a warning that Armstrongism can be found in many apparently
harmless names which appear on various "Christian web site"
listings right across the internet! Some of these groups now
appear to want to mask their true identity; several such groups,
for instance, appear within the very popular 'Christian Top
1,000' listing of supposedly Christian websites.
I have only written a few of the articles on this page, the other
articles are included as also being very helpful for those who
have been influenced by Armstrongism. PLEASE NOTE: to return to
