...My concern is this, I wish it to be explained what the original sin of Adam and Eve was, I have heard teachings on that topic which even contradict what I had believed, please help me out. Why is this (Adam's sin), still relevant today?

UK Apologetics Reply:

The original sin of Adam and Eve was rebellion in their refusal to believe God and His revelation to them. It has nothing to do with the taking of a so-called apple, of course. There was indeed a fruit (we don't know what it was), and they were warned not to eat of that particular tree (it seems that there were many other trees or plants which produced very nice fruit), but they chose the tree which was specifically and expressly forbidden to them. So this was deliberate rebellion against their Maker. From then on, the first couple and their children would not follow God but prefer the way of human experimentation (modern society still does it). So God developed a general 'hands off' policy towards the human family, except that He reserved the right to call certain people to fulfil His overall purposes on Earth (Noah, Abraham, Moses etc). Then much later He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to Earth to show how we could all be restored to God. That's it in a nutshell but the details are many. Also, the original sin did not refer to sex in any way (as a few continue to believe).

So, to sum all of this up, God offered the very first human couple the opportunity to walk with Him and have an exclusive relationship with Him right from the very beginning but - under influence from Satan - the first couple threw this right back in His face and chose a path of sin and rebellion for themselves and for their progeny. Original Sin has tainted the path of men and women ever since, even little children are affected by it as and when they show rebellion to their parents and other authority figures. One of the curses of original sin is the veil of ignorance which later spread right across humanity so that today many don't even believe that God exists; many also believe that human "scientific" knowledge is the greatest knowledge there is.
