A Question I Was Asked:

Can You Explain Revelation 16:13 Please?

Can you please explain this verse better for me... And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. Rev 16:13.

UK Apologetics Reply:

This is in section five of Revelation and the theme there is Judgement and Final Judgement. Maybe you understand that Revelation is divided into seven parallel sections, each with an overall theme. Here is the specific verse you quote:

Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (Revelation 16:13).

The very next verse after the one you enquire about is verse 14 which states this:

14. They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. 15. "Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed." 16. Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. (Revelation 16:14-16).

So here is your answer: This almost surely refers to that future time when God dramatically intervenes in world affairs. The 'dragon' in verse 13 refers to the activities of Satan, the 'beast' refers to worldly governmental power (which is ultimately always anti-Christian), and the 'false prophet' refers to the various world religions and ideologies which are ever at war with Christianity; all the world's religions are here as are all the false ideologies, things such as communism, Darwinism, atheism and the rest. Frogs were considered to be unclean, loathsome, suggesting the plagues of Egypt.
