To be British in this year of our Lord of 2007, and to be a Christian believer, is to be experiencing a living nightmare.
Some time ago our "progressively liberal" Labour government (which is determinedly left-wing, permissive and bows to all of the usual liberal and politically-correct biases), decided that gays must be allowed to adopt children. This has now passed into British law. It is now illegal to discriminate against homosexuals in any area of modern British life. The Roman Catholic Church has loudly protested that since they themselves run several adoption agencies and would not allow gays to adopt children (good for them, but where are the protests from other Christian Denominations???), the law would have to make an exception for them. However, to everybody's surprise, the British government has turned down this request. This effectively means that the government's pro-gay dogma is considered to be more important than the consciences of Christian believers! Moreover, the British government obviously believes that their pro-gay dogma is more important than those children who badly need to find adoptive parents. The only concession offered to the Roman Catholic adoption groups is a 20 month transition period. After that expires, it will be illegal for Catholic agencies to refuse to allow gays to adopt children placed in their care. Without doubt, several such agencies will withdraw from their involvement in the adoption of children. In a piece of supremely twisted logic, the British government have stated that they turned down requests for faith groups to be exempt from the new pro-gay legislation,
"....Because the interests of the children should come first."
Of course, as even normally quite liberal commentators have noted, it would have been far more accurate to have stated that they turned down any exemptions,
'Because the interests of gays must come first.'
We should not be altogether surprised since the present British government is the most atheistic British government which has ever existed and has a good representation of homosexuals among its ranks. As Frederick Forsyth commented,
'They are incredulous that people can exist who are:
a. Able to believe in anything higher than a political career.
b. Unable to betray what they believe in.'
(Source: Daily Express, page 11, February 2, 2007).
But quite apart from the fact that nobody will be able to prevent a homosexual couple from adopting a child (or children), it will soon be illegal for Christian hotels to refuse to let homosexual couples stay in their rooms. It will also be illegal for church authorities to refuse to let gay groups rent their halls (in the UK many church congregations allow other groups to rent their premises when they are not otherwise in use; they are often rented out for wedding parties and children's parties for instance). It will also be illegal for a Christian photographer to refuse to take photographs of a 'gay wedding' for religious reasons. But the list could go on and on...
But to return to the principle of gays adopting children: Because of permissive political-correctness, people are refusing to recognise a fact which is actually quite widely known, that is, that modern "liberated" homosexuals are famously promiscuous, tending to lurch from one hideous relationship to another, whereas a typical marriage is far and away more stable and able to provide an ideal environment for children from a socially disturbed background to begin to thrive. These sad children are now to be sacrificed on the altar of the morally-redundant liberalism so beloved by Britain's Labour government. It would have been wonderful if new Conservative leader David Cameron had strongly attacked the new pro-gay legislation but (perhaps predictably) this self-confessed modern liberal has welcomed it. The British are beginning to wonder where to turn for moral leadership since almost none is coming from the Church of England while the nonconformist Protestants (the Salvation Army, the Methodist Conference, the Baptist Union, for instance) have been amazingly silent!
'Sin' has become quite an embarrassing and old-fashioned word for some, but - truth is - there is a God in Heaven who will hold a nation's leaders accountable for encouraging the people of the land to no longer place their faith in Jesus Christ but to place their faith in the morally-bankrupt policies of unbridled liberalism.
Liberals may sarcastically smirk at the thought, but a Day of Judgment lies ahead for them just as much for every other man and woman who has ever been born into this world. Liberals in the UK government have said that 'We do not believe in exemptions' well, there too - there will be no exemptions, or indeed, exceptions!
